Yacare caiman (Caiman yacare)

- The Yacare caiman is found in central South America.
- Known for feeding on piranhas, the Yacare caiman also feeds on a range of prey including other fish, invertebrates and snakes.
- The female Yacare caiman builds a mound into which she typically lays between 22 and 35 eggs.
- Female Yacare caimans will often guard their nests from predators.
The Yacare caiman is classified as Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List (1).
