Glossary

Antennae: Pair of sensory structures on the head of invertebrates.
Carapace: The top shell of a turtle. In arthropods (insects, crabs etc), the fused head and thorax (the part of the body located near the head) also known as ‘cephalothorax'.
Nocturnal: Active at night.
Omnivore: An organism that feeds on both plants and animals.
Spermatophore: Gelatinous jelly cone with a sperm cap deposited by a male during courtship and picked up by the cloacal lips of the female.
