Wood snipe (Gallinago nemoricola)
- Native to Asia, the wood snipe breeds in the Himalayas, occurring at lower altitudes during winter.
- Usually a silent species, the wood snipe does occasionally make a ‘tok-tok’ call.
- Hunting and habitat loss are both threats to the Vulnerable wood snipe.
Classified as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List (1).
