Halophila spp. of seagrass, dugong browse

Seagrass beds are widespread in the sheltered, shallow waters and lagoons along the Arabian Gulf coast of the United Arab Emirates, and also occupy small, isolated areas along the more exposed waters of the east coast.

The seagrass beds of the UAE are amongst the most extensive in the world. Often covering enormous areas, this very productive habitat is home to large populations of threatened species.
