تنتشر الأعشاب البحرية على نطاق واسع في المياه والبحيرات الضحلة والمحمية على طول ساحل الخليج العربي في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، كما تحتل أيضا مناطق صغيرة معزولة على طول المياه الأكثر انكشافا من الساحل الشرقي.
وتعتبر الحشائش البحرية الموجودة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة الأكثر اتساعا في العالم. وتعد هذه المواطن الخصبة للغاية، والتي غالبا ما تغطي مناطق شاسعة، مأوى لأعداد كبيرة من الكائنات الحية المهددة بالانقراض.
