تمثل البحار التي تحيط بالإمارات العربية المتحدة موطناً لتنوع غني من الأسماك البحرية، يفوق 500 نوع مسجل، بدءا من أسماك القرش الكبيرة إلى فرس البحر الصغير، ومن تونة المحيط إلى مجموعة من الأنواع التي تعيش في الشعاب المرجانية. وعلى الرغم من أن مسطحات المياه العذبة شحيحة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، إلا أنه يوجد ثلاثة أنواع أصلية ونوعين آخرين تم جلبهم تتواجد بشكل أساسي في وديان جبال الحجر.
