السهول الغرينية (الطمي) والسبخة
تعد السهول سمة مشتركة في أجزاء كثيرة من دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة. فإلى جوار جبال الحجر تظهر هذه السهول وكأنها مناطق فسيحة، ممتدة ومنبسطة، مغطاة بالحصى والصخور الخشنة. وفي أجزاء أخرى من البلاد، تكون السهول مصاحبة إلى حد بعيد لمجموعات الكثبان، حيث يشكلان شبكة متصلة ومترابطة بشكل رائع في المناطق الواقعة بين الكثبان الرملية.
و'السبخة' مصطلح عربي، يشير إلى الصحراء القاحلة المنبسطة المغطاة بالملح والتي تخلو عادة من أي غطاء نباتي ذو أهمية تُذكر، وغالباً ما تظهر في سهول الطمي، حيث تبدو المياه الجوفية قريبة من السطح. كما توجد أيضاً السبخة الساحلية في الإمارات وتسيطر على الشريط الساحلي الذي يمتد من منطقة جزيرة أبوظبي إلى الغرب.
ويعيش في هذه البيئة القاسية عدد من سكان الإمارات العربية المتحدة الذين استطاعوا التكيف مع هذه الظروف البيئية الصعبة.
