Arboreal: Living in trees.
Austral: Pertaining to the Southern Hemisphere.
Bromeliad: A family of plants that take in moisture and nutrients from the rain and the air due to their lack of roots. They are found only in warm climates and live on tree trunks and on the uppermost leaves of trees.
Coverts: Small feathers concealing the bases of larger primary feathers, usually on the wings or tail.
Endemic: A species or taxonomic group that is only found in one particular country or geographic area.
Epiphytes: Plants that use another plant, typically a tree, for their physical support, but which do not draw nourishment from it.
Mantle: In birds, the wings, shoulder feathers and back, when coloured differently from the rest of the body.
Tertials: Flight feathers attached to upper arm (humerus) of the wing.
