Popular snake species

Reaching over seven metres long, the African rock python is Africa's largest snake. Unlike most snake species which possess only a single functioning lung, pythons have two lungs.

Warm-blooded prey are detected using heat-sensitive pits in the scales around the python's mouth, allowing them to hunt effectively in the dark. All pythons are non-venomous and kill by constriction, coiling tighter and tighter around their victim, eventually triggering a cardiac arrest.
