The sika deer has a greyish-brown coat in winter, which becomes lighter in colour in summer, with light spots and a dark stripe along the back (4). There is a white rump-patch bordered by black. The antlers differ in shape from those of red deer (Cervus elaphus) in that the front spikes point forwards rather than towards each other (4).
