Classified as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List (1) and listed on Appendix II of CITES (2). Subspecies: Acipenser baerii baerii and the Baikal sturgeon (A. b. baicalensis) are listed as Endangered (EN), and the Lena river sturgeon (A. b. stenorrhynchus) is listed as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List (1).
