Scrambled-egg lichen  (Fulgensia fulgens)

Threats

Eutrophication caused by the run-off of fertilisers from fields is thought to have caused the dramatic decline of scrambled-egg lichen at Stackpole National Nature Reserve in southwest Wales. A decline in rabbit grazing and the resultant growth of rank vegetation is also thought to have caused some losses (6). Furthermore, excessive trampling by animals and humans or other soil disturbance will destroy thalli and prevent this slow-growing species from re-establishing and developing again (8).

Conservation

This species has been monitored at Stackpole National Nature Reserve, where it also receives a level of protection as a result of the site designation (6).

There may be further information about this species available via the National Biodiversity Network Gateway.
