Sandbowl snail  (Catinella arenaria)

Description

One of the family of amber snails, this extremely rare snail has an amber-coloured shell, with three whorls and an almost circular opening. The shell is rather thick and unlike related snail shells, not very translucent. This snail closely resembles another in the family. A very similar species is called the small amber snail (Succinea oblonga), which is also rare. These two snails can only be told apart by an expert.
