Glossary

  • Gestation: the state of being pregnant; the period from conception to birth.
  • Preorbital glands: an organ that produces a secretion, situated in front of the eye socket.
  • Subspecies: a population usually restricted to a geographical area that differs from other populations of the same species, but not to the extent of being classified as a separate species.
  • Territory: area occupied and defended by an animal, a pair of animals or a colony.
  • Ungulate: a hoofed, grazing mammal.
