Barrens: A flat, open plains area dominated by grasses, supporting a growth of small trees, and lacking a closed-canopy forest; examples of barrens communities are pine barrens and oak barrens.
Carnivore: Flesh-eating.
Coprophagous: Feeding on dung, or faeces.
Dorsal: Relating to the back or top side of an animal.
Subspecies: A population usually restricted to a geographical area that differs from other populations of the same species, but not to the extent of being classified as a separate species.
Subterranean: Living underground, in caves or groundwater.
