CEO of UK based charity Wildscreen, Harriet Nimmo, is to step down after 13 years with the globally renowned wildlife and environmental organisation, to take up a new opportunity in Cape Town.
Steering the helm as Wildscreen CEO for the past seven years, Nimmo has been instrumental in the growth and strategic direction of the charity, laying the foundations for its current and future development.
During her 13 years with the charity, Nimmo has been responsible for the creation and delivery of ARKive.org, an award-winning website profiling the world’s threatened species. Launched to worldwide critical acclaim in 2003 by Wildscreen Patron Sir David Attenborough, the ARKive project saw Nimmo receive ‘European Professional Woman of Achievement’ the same year.

In 2005, Nimmo was named one of the UK's top five most talented Cultural Leaders by NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), an award which included a three month secondment to South Africa with Conservation International.
With a host of achievements under her belt, Nimmo feels now is the time to explore new horizons, however she will continue to stay closely involved with the charity at high level, taking the advisory role of Wildscreen Strategic Director.
Meanwhile Wildscreen’s second in command, Richard Edwards, who currently holds the post of ARKive Director, has been promoted to acting CEO. Edwards, who has been with Wildscreen for 10 years, brings a wealth of experience to ensure business continuity during the recruitment process. A graduate of Oxford University and University College London, Edwards has a strong natural history and wildlife media background, and an extensive range of environmental education and communication skills to compliment this role.
Wildscreen’s Chair, Dick Emery OBE, commenting on the developments said: “The Trustees and I fully understand Harriet's position. She has done a tremendous job for Wildscreen and the ARKive project, and we wish her every possible success with her new endeavours. At the same time, we are delighted that Harriet has agreed to stay closely involved with Wildscreen as Strategic Director.
“With Richard’s experience and Harriet's continued strategic involvement, I am fully confident that Wildscreen will maintain both the momentum and the direction that has proved so successful for us in the recent past.”
Wildscreen is currently recruiting for a high calibre individual to take over leadership of the organisation, with the successful candidate reporting directly to Wildscreen Chair, Emery.
