Indian Ocean islands
Located in the northwest of the Indian Ocean, the Socotra Archipelago is composed of four islands and two rocky islets. Arguably the most famous inhabitant of the island of Socotra, the largest island of the Socotra Archipelago, is the dragon’s blood tree.
Named after the dark red resin that it produces, known as ‘dragon’s blood’, the dragon’s blood tree has a bizarre shape which helps it survive in arid conditions, with morning mist condensing on the waxy skyward-pointing leaves and channelling the water down to the roots.
