- The green lizard is found across south-eastern Europe, from eastern Germany to Turkey and Ukraine.
- The male green lizard is brilliant emerald green with yellow and black spots. The blue throat of the adult males is more prominent during the mating season.
- Like other lizards, the green lizard can actively shed its tail in order to escape predators.
Classified as Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List (1).
