Hermit crabs are a common feature of the rocky shore, where they adopt the empty shells of gastropods.
A regular inhabitant of rock pools, the common prawn is found around much of Europe's coastline.
Remarkably tenacious when jostling for prime positions, the limpet is usually seen stationary.
Able to withstand temperature fluctuations, the beadlet anemone is well adapted to life on the shore.
Flat periwinkles are found in myriad colours, from green, brown and yellow, to even banded or criss-crossed.
Swarms of common jellyfish are a regular sight around the shore, in warm summer seas.
