A new look ARKive

Welcome

ARKive homepage
Always striving to be on the 'cutting edge' of multi-media web delivery, the ARKive team have been busy working to update and improve the ARKive website. The result, launched this week, is a new look for ARKive, with a different logo, design and layout. Be one of the first to explore the newly re-designed site at www.arkive.org .

Also announced this week is ARKive's very latest venture - a layer on Google Earth. We've teamed up with Google Earth Outreach to highlight one hundred of ARKive's threatened species, as a powerful new way to promote awareness of the world's biodiversity to an even wider audience. The ARKive project isn't the only Wildscreen initiative the team have been focusing on lately. Take a look below for the very latest news on the Wildscreen Festival, WildPhotos 2008 and the recently launched WildFilmHistory.

ARKive's new look

ARKive species page
The new ARKive site has been developed to be more user-friendly, media-rich and contemporary, making the visitor experience more intuitive, and encouraging further exploration of the ever-expanding multi-media collection.

Our aim is for the ARKive website to continue to move with the times, bringing our users the very best wildlife imagery and species information on the world's threatened fauna and flora. Further significant changes to the ARKive website are already scheduled for this year.

ARKive is a great success story, and one which would not be possible without the continued support of our many media donors, now numbering well over 1,500. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them again for their much valued support.

ARKive on Google Earth

Sir David Attenborough, Wildscreen Patron, today announced ARKive's latest venture, a layer on Google Earth. This new ARKive layer uses Google's mapping technology to raise the profile of a selection of threatened species from around the world, and is an exciting new platform for ARKive to promote the conservation of the world's biodiversity to an even wider audience.

Initially highlighting one hundred of the world's threatened species, each of the 'ARKive balloons' on the Google Earth layer acts as a window to the full species profile on the ARKive website.

The ARKive layer can be found in the Global Awareness folder of the Featured Content section in Google Earth. To download Google Earth for free go to www.google.co.uk/earth.
