- There are 2 subspecies of Commerson’s dolphin which have ranges separated by 8,500 km.
- Though often solitary, Commerson’s dolphins have been seen in larger groups of 20 to 30 or more individuals, and can hunt cooperatively.
- Commerson’s dolphins have a well developed sense of hearing, which aids hunting in murky waters.
Classified as Data Deficient (DD) on the IUCN Red List (1) and listed on Appendix II of CITES (2).
