Glossary

  • Catchment: The area surrounding a stream or river from which it receives water, either from rainwater run-off or from tributaries.
  • Emergent: Aquatic plants whose stems and leaves extend beyond the water’s surface.
  • Invertebrates: animals with no backbone.
  • Pectoral fins: in fish, the pair of fins that are found one on each side of the body just behind the gills. They are generally used for balancing and braking.
