Cookies

Bengal tiger stalking We want to make Wildscreen Arkive easy, useful and reliable. To make our site work properly, we sometimes place small data files called ‘cookies’ on your device. Most big websites do this too.

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another. It can also measure how the website is being used and by how many people. It cannot be used to identify you personally.

Cookies set by the website owner (here, Wildscreen Arkive) are called "first party cookies". Cookies set by other parties are called "third party cookies". Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through our site such as social haring buttons, advertising and analytics. The parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits Wildscreen Arkive and also when it visits certain other websites.

In addition, cookies may be either ‘session cookies’ or ‘persistent cookies’. Your device will automatically delete session cookies when you close your browser. Persistent cookies will stay on your device until the expiry date specified in the cookie itself is reached.

How do we use cookies?

Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our site to operate, and we refer to these as "strictly necessary" or "functional" cookies. Other cookies also enable us to track the interests and behaviour of our visitors for future site improvements. Third parties serve cookies through our site for advertising, analytics and other purposes.
We use both session and persistent cookies.

Note on Google Services

As noted above, we use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (‘Google’). The information generated by its cookies about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for Wildscreen and providing other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

We have also implemented Google Analytics features based on Display Advertising (Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting). You can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using one or both of the opt out links listed above. This uses Google’s third party audience data, such as age, gender and interests, with Google Analytics which we will use to develop the website and content around your interests.

We also make use of Google AdWords in order to promote our website. If you visit certain pages on our website soon after clicking one of our ads displayed in Google search results, both Google and Wildscreen will be able to tell that your visit was a result of a click on one of these ads. If you do not wish for your visit to be tracked, please do not click on Google Ads.

For further details on the cookies set by Google Analytics, please refer to the Google Code website or refer to Google Analytics privacy overview.

How can you control cookies?

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies and can control and/or delete them as you wish – for details see http://www.allaboutcookies.org. You can delete all cookies that are already on your device and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. The third parties also allow you to manage their cookies independently via the links above. If you choose to reject cookies, you may still use our website through your access to some functionality and areas may be restricted.

Note that you can opt-out of many network advertising programs that track your browsing habits via cookies with the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) Opt-Out Tool. It shows you which advertising networks have placed cookies on your computer, and lets you opt-out of being tracked by them, should you wish to do so. To opt out of an NAI member’s advertising program, simply go to http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ and follow the instructions. Opting out of a network does not mean you will no longer receive online advertising. It only means that the network from which you opted out will no longer deliver ads tailored to your web preferences and usage patterns.

If you have any questions regarding the use of cookies on Arkive, please contact us.
